iPhone Duo Cases That Work With a Screen Protector (Only 3 of 9 Passed)

Last updated . We have not tested these cases ourselves. Findings come from the reviewers linked on each point.

Most iPhone Duo cases have a front frame that sits on the outer display, and that frame lands right on top of a screen protector. In case-tester.com's hands-on test of nine cases, only three worked properly with one: JETech, TORRO and Apple's Folio. A fourth, the TORRAS, technically works, but its front bar covers part of the screen.

Our picks (based on published tests)

Best overall for screen-protector users

JETech Vegan Leather Case with Hinge Protection

A back shell with nothing on the front, so any screen protector fits. It also has the strongest MagSafe hold case-tester.com measured among US-available cases. The trade-off is that the frame and front stay exposed.

  • Back shell only: no front frame and no adhesive strips, so it comes off whenever you like. (case-tester.com)
  • Hinge is covered at the side; the shell folds back against the phone by itself. (case-tester.com)
  • MagSafe held 1.84 kg on case-tester.com's pull gauge, the strongest of the US-available cases tested. (case-tester.com)
  • Because nothing sits on the front, a screen protector works without trouble. (case-tester.com)
  • Downsides: protects the back only, no inner lining, frame stays exposed. (case-tester.com)
  • Amazon listing states: back cover with hinge protection only; front cover and screen protector NOT included. (Amazon product listing)

Attachment: No adhesive: back shell only, comes off whenever you like (case-tester.com)

Best if you want a wallet and a large protector

TORRO Leather Wallet Case

This one works even with large protectors. Skip it if you use MagSafe car mounts or wallets, because it has no magnetic hold.

  • The only case in case-tester.com's test that worked even with large screen protectors. (case-tester.com)
  • Real leather, interior lining, stand function, nothing to glue; hard corners. (case-tester.com)
  • No MagSafe magnets: wireless charging through it was weak and unreliable; car mounts are out. (case-tester.com)
  • Heaviest in that test at 79 g. Without cards inside, the flap can knock against the front display, and the tab gets in the way of the fingerprint sensor. (case-tester.com)
  • TORRO's Amazon listing: compatible with official MagSafe chargers, not vertical stands or in-car MagSafe chargers. (Amazon product listing)

Attachment: No adhesive: the phone clicks into the shell (case-tester.com)

Best feel, least protection

Apple iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand

Takes a screen protector with no issues and covers the hinge when closed. The frame is exposed and its MagSafe hold is weak.

  • Attaches purely by magnets, front and back; takes a screen protector without issue; microfibre lining. (case-tester.com)
  • Frame is fully exposed, and MagSafe hold measured 0.88 kg, which case-tester.com says rules out a car mount. (case-tester.com)
  • Popular Mechanics' 'Best Folio' pick; it notes magnet-only attachment isn't as secure as a snap-on case in a heavy drop. (Popular Mechanics)
  • WSJ cautions that folio-style cases block either the outer display or the main cameras; you can't use both at once. (WSJ Buy Side)

Attachment: Magnetic only, front and back; no adhesive (case-tester.com, MacRumors)

Most coverage, with a caveat

TORRAS Q3 Spin Case with 360° Magnetic Stand

The tester's suggestion: use only the back shell, put a screen protector on the front, and leave off the front bar that covers part of the display.

  • The only case in case-tester.com's test covering back, hinge, camera and front display; ships with a screen protector and spare adhesive strips. (case-tester.com)
  • 360° kickstand rotates and holds at any angle. (case-tester.com)
  • Front bar covers a visible strip of the display; adds bulk. Tester's suggestion: use the back shell only plus a screen protector. (case-tester.com)
  • 9to5Mac also lists a VegSkin leather version. (9to5Mac)

Attachment: Mixed: back shell snaps on without glue; front frame sticks on with adhesive; spare strips included (case-tester.com)

Quick answers

Why do most cases conflict with screen protectors?
Per case-tester.com, any case with a separate front frame rests on the glass, so a protector lifts or blocks it.
Does any case protect the inner (folding) display?
No. case-tester.com notes nothing can rest on the inner display, or the phone wouldn't close.
Using Apple's own iPhone Duo Case?
Its front frame clashes with most protectors. See which protectors work with the Apple iPhone Duo Case.
Will more cases work with protectors later?
Probably. Case makers are still shipping new designs, and we'll update this page as tests appear.
